Before starting this procedure, make sure you have made a “good” backup, restore it if you chose the Zip file or Open the company if you chose the Non-compressed files backup. Make sure you are able to open this backup data set without errors. If you are unsure how to make a backup or restore a backup, the information is available in the Knowledge Base or in your Payroll manual located under the Help menu in the Payroll program.
1. Choose Rebuild Files from the File menu.
A “Rebuild Files?” message appears. Depending on the version of Payroll you are using, the message may be slightly different. Click Yes (This generally only takes a second or two).
2. Click on Employee Earnings on the Command Center. Select the Check Summary report and highlight all check dates. Then holding down the “F8” key (windows); “option” key (macintosh) on the keyboard, click view. When the report comes up, you can let go of the “F8” key (windows); “option” key (macintosh) and close the report window. This rebuilds the Check file and recalculates the reports.
If this doesn’t bring the check date back, it should at least correct the Earnings Register so it is reflecting only the checks that are in the system.
If you are still missing check dates after this, just make sure the YTD Earnings Register is balanced and then re-enter the checks.
