Finding Files on my computer or network.

In Payroll for Windows version 3.9.6 or higher and Payroll for Macintosh version 6.5.5 or higher, there is a Find Company utility located in the File menu.

This utility will search your hard drive and any network drives (on a PC, the drives need to be mapped network drives) and then displays the results. You can enter any of these files through the results window. The results window displays the following information:

Year – The payroll year of the set.
Last Check – The date of the last check created in the data set.
Company Name – The company name entered in the data set.
Location – The physical location of the data set on the computer.

To use the Find Company utility, Click on the File menu and choose Find Company. If Find Company is dimmed, you have a data set open and you will need to Close Company. Please note: this utility can take some time to run. This is based on the size and number of drives it will search. In versions 3.9/6.5 – 4.0/6.6 a message will display informing you that this utility can take time and do you wish to proceed, click Yes. In version 7.7 and higher, for both Windows and Mac, a Find Window will open. If you wish to search network drives, mark the Search Network Drives checkbox and then click on the Find button. If you wish to only search the drive you are currently accessing, simply click the Find button.

The results of the search are displayed in the Results Window. To enter a data set from this window, click on the set you wish to enter and click Open.
