General Information:
After completing the steps outlined in this guide, you will have two different versions of CheckMark Payroll installed:
- CheckMark Payroll 2011 version 8.2.10.1
- CheckMark Payroll 2012 version 8.2.13
CheckMark Payroll 2011 version 8.2.10.1 is intended to be used for:
- Processing 2011 payroll.
- Printing/Creating 2011 Forms and Reports: W2, W3, EFW2, EFW3, 940, 940 Schedule A, 941, 941 Schedule B, 943, 944,
- Starting payroll year 2012
CheckMark Payroll 2012 version 8.2.13 is intended to be used for:
- Processing 2012 payroll.
Step-by-Step Guide to Getting Set Up:
If you are running CheckMark Payroll version 8.2.9 or earlier:
1) Download and Install 8.2.10.1:
1.1) Go to the following website (depending on your OS):
Mac: http://www.checkmark.com/support/patch_mac_pr.php
Windows: http://www.checkmark.com/support/patch_win_pr.php
1.2) Click on the link under “Download Patch” to download the 8.2.10.1 patch.
1.3) After download is complete, run the patch to install 8.2.10.1.
1.4) After installation is complete.
2) Run CheckMark Payroll 2011 version 8.2.10.1.
3) Start payroll year 2012 for each of your Company Databases:
3.1) From the File Menu, select “Database Manager”.
3.2) Select a 2011 Database that you have NOT started a New Year for yet.
3.3) Click on “Switch Database” to open the selected Database.
3.4) From the File Menu, select “New Year 2012”.
3.5) Read all pop-up messages until you receive the following message:
“You are now ready to process payrolls in the new year.”
NOTE: This process may take several minutes depending on the size of your Database.
3.6) Repeat these steps for each of your 2011 Company Databases.
4) Download and Install 8.2.13:
4.1) Go to the following website (depending on your OS):
Mac: http://www.checkmark.com/support/patch_mac_pr_2012.php
Windows: http://www.checkmark.com/support/patch_win_pr_2012.php
4.2) Click on the link under “Download Patch” to download the 8.2.13 patch.
4.3) After download is complete, run the patch to install 8.2.13.
4.4) After installation is complete, run CheckMark Payroll 8.2.13.
5) Run CheckMark Payroll 2012 version 8.2.13 to process payroll for 2012.
If you are running CheckMark Payroll version 8.2.10:
Start at Step #2 from above.
If you are running CheckMark Payroll version 8.2.13:
1) Download and Install 8.2.10.1 if you have not already:
1.1) Go to the following website (depending on your OS):

Windows: http://www.checkmark.com/support/patch_win_pr.php
1.2) Click on the link under “Download Patch” to download the 8.2.10 patch.
1.3) After download is complete, run the patch to install 8.2.10.1.
1.4) After installation is complete.
2) Run CheckMark Payroll 2011 version 8.2.10.1.
3) Start payroll year 2012 for each of your Company Databases:
3.1) From the File Menu, select “Database Manager”.
3.2) Select a 2011 Database that you have NOT started a New Year for yet.
3.3) Click on “Switch Database” to open the selected Database.
3.4) From the File Menu, select “New Year 2012”.
3.5) Read all pop-up messages until you receive the following message:
“You are now ready to process payrolls in the new year.”
NOTE: This process may take several minutes depending on the size of your Database.
3.6) Repeat these steps for each of your 2011 Company Databases.
4) Run CheckMark Payroll 2012 version 8.2.13 to process payroll for 2012.
The conversion process is a one-time deal to get your files changed from the old technology of flat files to database files. Your future updates will be nothing more than a seamless transition. You’ll be able to independently finish up old payroll years while going into your new year, using only the appropriate tax rates and the correct forms for each. No more mix ups, no more inaccuracies, no more delayed new-year payroll.
