Payroll puts a .PRx( .lock in versions 6.2-6.6) file into the data set that it is accessing so that other users cannot access that data simultaneously corrupting the data set. When Payroll is closed down or you ‘Close Company’, this .PRx (.lock) file is deleted by the program.
If the program was not closed properly, due to a power failure, system crash or some other reason, this .PRx (.lock) file can be ‘stuck’ in the data set prompting the program to deny access to anyone trying to access the data set.
To remove this file, navigate to the folder where your Payroll data set resides. Upon opening the folder containing your data, you will see a file called {Your payroll file name}.PRx(.lock). Click on this file and delete it. Once deleted, your company will open as usual.
