In Payroll versions 7.7.5 and higher, the New Year command has replaced the old Close Year command and the job just got a lot easier.
When you are ready to start your new payroll year, select New Year under the File menu. If your version does not yet have the new tax values, you will receive an alert telling you that updated tax values are not in this version and installing a patch/update may be necessary. Be sure to install a newer version of CheckMark Payroll when it is available.
Read the New Year alerts and click OK when you are ready to proceed.
After the New Year process is complete, the lower left corner of the Command Center will display the new payroll year. To access your prior year(s) payroll information for reporting, auditing purposes, or modification, select Year/[year] under the File menu. Simply repeat this step to return to your current payroll year.
What Happens when you complete the New Year command
- The payroll year is incremented to the next year.
- Your prior year payroll information is still available for easy access or modification under File/Year/[year].
- All employee and employer checks are cleared.
- All employees marked as Inactive in the Employee setup screen are deleted.
