Macintosh: The email function from both the Payroll and the MultiLedger (version 7.1 and higher) does require OSX and the Apple Mail program. The Mail program must be set as the default email program on your computer. To set this:
1) Launch the Mail program
2)Select Preference from the Mail menu
3)Select Mail as Default Mail Reader on the General tab
Windows: The program utilizes MAPI that is a part of the Windows operating system. MAPI is an acronym for Messaging Application Programming Interface. This is what gives the CheckMark programs the ability to email pay stubs, invoices, etc. using the email program that is set up on your computer to do the actual sending. Given this, the CheckMark programs are “blind” since the program has no way to “know” what, if any, email program you have on your computer to process these MAPI requests. This function does not necessarily work for an internet based email program.
Windows has a few more email program options than Mac and they all setup differently. Because of this, your best option is to go to the Help menu of your email program and ask how to set your specific email program up as the “Default Reader”
Some Examples of Window Desktop Email programs that may work:
Eudora Pro 4.x-6.2
Outlook
Mozilla Thunderbird
Please note that this list is by no means a complete list of email programs available today. Nor does it include any security overrides that might be necessary in order for another application to send mail through the email program. For specifics about your email program or a particular version of that program, please see the user manual/help section or the web site of the program developer.
