An alias is a file that points to another item (such as a program, document, folder, or disk). When you open the alias, the original item that the alias points to opens.
You can make an alias of the application, and if you have “Open Last Company on Launch” selected in your program, it will always open the last company you were in.
Note: The preference for “Open Last Company on Launch” is on the Preferences window in Payroll and on the User Settings window in MultiLedger.
You can also make an alias of the “Information” file from your company files. If you have multiple companies, you would want to make an alias of the “Information” files from each company.
An alias can be placed wherever you want, but the most common places are either on the desktop or in the Apple Menu folder.
There are two ways you can make an alias:
- Using the Make Alias Command
1. Select the icon of the item.
2. Open the File menu and choose Make Alias.
3. Drag the icon of the alias to the location you want it to reside.
- Using the Option and Command keys
1. Select the icon of the item.
2. Hold down the Option and Command keys at the same time.
3. Drag the icon of the item to the location you want the alias to reside.
Tip: If you need to find the original of an alias, you can select the icon of the alias and Open the File menu and choose Show Original. This will bring up the window where the original item resides.
